PRAYER FOR A NEW MONTH, HOPE, HEALING

Holy God in Heaven, Master and Ruler of all things, we come before You at the start of a new month, seeking more of Your powerful, yet kind and gracious Hand, in everything we see, say and do. Father, and most Glorious God, we also seek Your intervention in certain places, countries and continents where sickness and worse have followed in the wake of the worse human pandemic in modern history.

We pray for discernment, wise decisions and rational choices to be made by people who are in charge of all medical decisions and that medicine, along with health professionals will be the main decision-makers in treating this virus, even months after the world thought it was defeated.

We pray for our young people, in the month of August, Holy God, who may or may not be going back to K-12 schools, who suffered so much emotional and spiritual harm during more than a year of lockdowns so much so that we are now in a mental health crisis. Lord, many of these children are now over a year behind where they should be in their education. We pray for their parents who tried their level best for their kids and even the education establishment which sometimes put obstacles in their way. We know the Lord Jesus said “suffer little children to come unto me, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven”.

Lord, intervene on behalf of Your children, for the sake of the soon-coming Kingdom.

We pray for those who are preparing to go on to college or return to their classes, that education and not indoctrination will be the main thing.

We pray for all campus ministries both in Colleges like Cru and others and in High Schools – the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Father, so many of our young people – those called Generation Z, have expressed hopelessness and no Faith, as we, Your servants, have sometimes failed in our mission to bring them up in the way that they should go….and those who have absolutely no Faith, are increasing daily. Father, we pray that not just those great traditional campus ministries, but that these young people will divine appointments with many in the working outside world who are Yours: whether it be a waitress at the diner, the cashier at the gas station or the custodian at school who prays daily for these kinds.

Make all kinds of divine appointments for these young people oh God. Bring many in their paths who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and are not ashamed of the gospel but have a burning and urgent desire to see the trend flip for our young people, insomuch as they will go from Hopeless to Hopeful.

Father, as we pray for all these things, let us never falter, fall back, fall out or fall down in our daily walk with You. Stir our hearts, minds and spirits that we may thirst and hunger for you.  As a deer pants for the water. May our soul long for You, O God. Help us to pour out our hearts before You, that we may remain a transparent book whose pages ring out for the Glory of God in all that we do, hallelujah!

Help us to consider those who are less fortunate than we are, no matter how little or much we have. We know You save and rescue such a one, in the day of adversity.  Keep and preserve us. Help us to persevere and stay on the straight and narrow. Keep us from stumbling. Guard our hearts. Protect our minds. Fill us daily with Your Joy, regardless of circumstances and then, may we reflect the love, hope, peace, joy and contentment, which can only be found in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ, and it is in His Name we pray, amen.

PRAYER IN TROUBLED TIMES

Oh Great Father in Heaven, You are alone are worthy to be praised. When Your great prophet Elijah stood on Mt. Carmel in front of the pagan priests of Baal and all their fancy accoutrements, You stood alone with the prophet and in all Godly simplicity and reality, Elijah cried out to You in Heaven, as recorded in 1 Kings 18:36  " “Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel". Lord, You are not only God in Israel but in ALL the Earth.

We face a pagan system, like the Baals,  of rank unbelief today which is markedly absolutely no different that what Elijah faced with those doomed for perdition on Mt. Carmel. Today in the face of secular humanism, there are people who think they can alter the Climate which You created and which therefore, only You can change.
We face a system of callous disregard for innocent unborn life and those at the end of life, at our senior homes and elsewhere.
We face a corrupt system that seeks to ruin our children with their education systems from Kindergarten and up through College ages with no regard for the effects of their indoctrination and perversion on young peoples' souls, hearts, minds and emotional make up.
We face systems in the culture with feeds the beast and leads many astray, ignoring your warning that about the fate of those who harm Your young ones.

All of that at more, we see, as many are devastated, dear Holy Father. But You, oh God, are not asleep. You judge the hearts of all men -   saved and unsaved.
You see the end from the beginning and not just the end of all evil but the possibilities of those who can be restored.
You see the deeds of the ungodly, but the fullness of time has not yet been reached.
You see the hopelessness and hunger for something real out there.
You see the many who are unable to even make it through another day, sleep at night or just function as we all should.

You, of God, are the God of all Hope.
You desire that none should perish but that all come to repentance and eternal life.
You desire that all will come to reason together with You as there is no doubt of fear which You cannot put to rest.
You desire that all Your children live together in peace, love and harmony.
All this and more, can happen, but for the prideful and stubborn hearts of even some in Your church.

Lord, bring a fresh wind of revival of spirit, hope and understanding.
Let Your Holy Spirit inspire Your Redeemed to excellence that we may serve as a beacons of light to draw men, women and children closer to you.
Let us be lighthouses to serve as red flags and warning signals of the days of Judgment to come, so we can lead many to Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our Faith, Who for the joy set before Him, endured the Cross.
Let all of this happen, oh great Father in Heaven, and let it begin in our homes, with each one of us with our nose to the heavenly grindstone. We know this cannot be done in a day, Father, but inch by inch, it's a cinch. Yard by yard, it's hard.

There is nothing too hard for You though, so we surrender all of this and our mission here on earth, at the Foot of the Cross, from whence cometh our Deliverance. Give us the courage and wisdom to discern the times and who the modern day acolytes of the current crop of Baals are, so we can stand like Elijah, strong in our faith and trust in You, the Lord God Almighty, the King of Heaven and the Lord of all the Armies of Heaven, which cannot and will not be defeated....give us the strength to proclaim like the Prophet to all the earth "the Lord, He alone is God"....We believe it, receive it and no one will deceive us, as it is in the Mighty, Powerful and Strong Name of Jesus I pray, amen and amen.

SEVEN FAMOUS BIBLE VERSES #4: "FLY LIKE AN EAGLE"

Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary (Isaiah 40:31)
What an amazingly powerful, hopeful and encouraging collection of words and sentiments....from the very heart of God!

Recent in-depth surveys of the beliefs of many people of different ages reveal stunning news, which should shock and dismay any right thinking person. It should also make any Christian cringe. The sheer volume of “Nones” (those who believe in nothing or have no faith system) is increasing by leaps and bounds. It is no more so than in Millennials, who learned their “believe-in-nothing-and-everything” from the Generation X-ers, who got their selfishness and “all about me” attitudes from one of the worse generations ever: we Baby Boomers. To be fair, the Baby Boomers came by it honestly. These were children of the so-called “Greatest Generation” who not only survived the Great Depression but won World War II and created the greatest and most prosperous nation in the world.

Therein lies the problem. The adversity of the 1930’s and 1940’s built perseverance and character. The prosperity of the victorious post-World War II boom led to a level of spiritual depravity and moral chaos which will only get worse, with each passing generation. All we need to do is look at the parallel universes of the brave military of the 1960’s and 1970’s against the sex and drug sub-culture, of that same era.

When you combine a western society of practical atheists, where God and His Laws have become ritual for one hour a week (for a declining minority of churchgoers), and a Christian church which does not follow the Compass of Christ, we have hopelessness. We see the fruits of a people with no hope in the increased use of Opioids and the resulting vortex downloads into hades. Suicide among young people has gone through the roof. Social media has coarsened relationships and true fellowship by the share nature of its into hades. Suicide among young people has gone through the roof. Social media has coarsened relationships and true fellowship by the share nature of its free-flowing accessibility and “anonymity”. With Christianity, the Bible and any mention of Jesus kept out of public schools and out of most of the public square in the west, it is no wonder people have no fixed point of reference on which to base their self-worth and eternal future.

Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is inscrutable.
29 He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.
30 Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
31 Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

Still, amidst all of this, comes one of the most famous and inspiring Bible verses of all time (Isaiah 40:31). But God, He gives us a reason why He can be counted on to make such as statement we find in verse 31. Here is what He says:
Verse 28: Because He is the Everlasting - meaning He has been there from Time past, to now to Eternity and was never created but did the creating Himself, He knows all and sees all. He never gets tired or grows weary in all these six thousands years of Creation and attending to the needs and souls of billions of people in all those years. Not just that, but God knows every single detail about us- our thoughts, our hopes, plans, dreams and fears. Because of this incomprehensible superior knowledge of His Creation, His "inscrutable understanding" leads Him to do what is best for each of us, if we would just trust and listen for and obey His direction.

Verse 29a: He does give strength to the weary in our rest - physical and spiritual. We all need food, sleep, exercise and relaxation so we can perform the work which the Lord has given our hands to do. Emotional rest comes when are our hearts are at peace and full of grace and love in the Lord. This encompasses those around us in our families, friends and community. If done right, Emotional well-being leads to this community focusing on the Word of God, its study and application to transform us into the Image of Christ.

Verses 29b-30: There is a barrel of Truth to the statement that God gives power to those who lack. John 1:12 says "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name". That same power is translated from the original Greek in John 1:12 as "dunamis" where we get the word "dynamite" from. Think of the explosive nature of dynamite and this is how God empowers the weak - if we ONLY TRUST IN HIM!

From there, the Lord, through His Holy Word now goes on to say that ANYONE - from young to old, who wait for Him....will then receive the promise of Isaiah 40:31. This "wait for the Lord" or as the King James Versions says so beautifully "they that wait upon the Lord" is crucial. It is an active present tense exhortation as in "those who are actively waiting until they hear from Me or get a clear direction" will.....

So the key is this, for the benefit of you and I - do not get in front or ahead of God, in our haste to make things better for us, because as humans, we are guaranteed to mess it up. But, just a little while longer and we "....
will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary!"

Is there anything more amazing than this truth?! God is good - all the time!

DEPRESSION & BIBLICAL SOLUTIONS - HELP IS OUT THERE

1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night,
While they continually say to me,
“Where is your God?”
4 When I remember these things,
I pour out my soul within me.
For I used to go with the multitude;
I went with them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise,
With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance......(Psalm 42:1-5)
Webster's dictionary describes depression as "a psychoneurotic or psychotic disorder marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping, feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal tendencies". That is a huge mouthful and unfortunately, all of it is true.

In times like these, it is small wonder that the ability to cope escapes more and more people, in all strata of society. Depression evades no one. We saw what happened in the recent past when the son of US mega-pastor Rick Warren unfortunately committed suicide, after almost an entire lifetime of depression.

Depression is not something to be dismissed by the super-religious by telling folks under duress to "get a hold of themselves" or "why don't you pray more....or read the Bible more" etc. It takes more than sermonizing. It takes love, commitment, counseling added to the Scriptures and Prayer to beat back the five major types of depression which I discuss in the video teaching below.

Counseling is important and critical to this, but it HAS TO BE from a Christian counselor. Most churches do NOT have this much-needed service and most times, the pastoral staff is ill-equipped biblically to handle these issues so they lean mostly on pop-psychology solutions. If you are someone who needs to reach out and seek or assist another in whipping depression, please look up your nearest Celebrate Recovery chapter in your town.

There is a Celebrate Recovery group in almost every major town in the United States. There is even a Celebrate Recovery (CR) Bible now! There are apps for PDA's, anything which will keep a person with a problem plugged in 24/7 until we beat this thing.

CLICK HERE TO FIND THE NEAREST CELEBRATE RECOVERY GROUP TO YOU

This is the best way to help a friend defeat depression. The mentoring, teaching and fellowship will bring value, peace and purpose to someone's life and the great thing about it, is CR is based ENTIRELY on the Word of God, with Jesus Christ as the foundation!

INSPIRATIONAL SCREENPLAY OF THE YEAR - "THE BEAUTIFUL WORLD": (Interview & Review)

(Adapted from Eleanor H. Porter’s Inspirational Novel: Just David)
If you’ve kept up with The Write Stuff blog for any length of time, you’ve noticed my posts about the prolific writings of Susan Rohrer, who has enjoyed a multi-faceted, award-winning career as a producer, screenwriter, director, and author in the entertainment and media industries. Most recently, I posed a few questions to Ms. Rohrer about her newest release entitled The Beautiful World.
—Bernie Lutchman

BL:  Why did you choose to adapt Eleanor H. Porter’s original novel Just David into your latest writing project, The Beautiful World?

SR:  First, thanks so much for inviting me to be part of your blog, Bernie. It’s my joy and privilege to share these thoughts with your readers.

When it comes to choosing what stories to tell, I find Philippians 4:8 to be a great yardstick. I ask myself if that story I’m considering would be a vessel of honor, if it’s consistent with what is true, right, pure, lovely, and of good report. Does the story have any virtue? Is it worthy of praise, thought, and the investment of time? Does it have the potential to transform? One person at a time, could it help make this world a better place? Eleanor H. Porter’s stirring story measured up on every level.

As noted in its subtitle, The Beautiful World is an adaptation of Porter’s inspirational classic, Just David. Since childhood, I’d been familiar with Porter’s most famous work, Pollyanna, and the family film productions it inspired. But I’d never heard of Just David until a dear friend and former co-worker called that gem to my attention. Just David had been even more popular than Pollyanna, ranking as the #2 Bestseller in the USA when it was published in 1916. Those who’ve discovered Just David treasure it, but with no film made, Porter’s tale of David, a guileless violin prodigy, has largely faded from the spotlight of popular culture. Still, from her very first pages, Porter’s timeless story resonated within me. With its universal longing to find meaning in life and its many scriptural allusions, this Gospel-laced allegory evoked deep emotion in me. It made me want to see our troubled world through David’s luminous eyes.

I remember telling my agent at the time about my intent to adapt Porter’s book
into a screenplay. He did his best to discourage this since—in today’s market—dark, edgy, secular scripts are much easier to sell. Still, Porter’s story echoed within me, begging to be told on the screen. So, I wrote the screenplay, updating it into the contemporary milieu, under the title The Beautiful World. Bless him, my agent still circulated the script to a number of production companies. Across the board, praise for the script was high. Some showed interest in getting it funded for production. But though that script opened doors and boosted my credibility as a screenwriter, it has yet to make it to the screen.

Time passed, but that longing remained to bring The Beautiful World to life in some way. Many of my scripts had already been produced, but I had just as many that I loved that hadn’t made it to the screen. Because a number of my scripts took many years to get produced, I continue to do what I can to support that effort. One by one, I began to adapt those orphaned scripts, giving each a home and a new life in novel form. Finally, the time seemed right to novelize The Beautiful World.

BL:  What would you like to accomplish with this dynamic new work?

SR:  I’m so excited at the prospect that this modern retelling will bring Porter’s
Author/Producer/Director
Susan Rohrer of L.A.
classic back to the attention of contemporary readers. And maybe, God willing, as the novel takes on a life of its own, it will raise awareness of the screenplay and support the effort to get The Beautiful World funded as a motion picture.

Meanwhile, in novel form, it’s my hope that The Beautiful World will put a mirror up in some way for everyone who reads, that we’ll see ourselves in each of its characters. Of course, as much as we’d hope to see ourselves in David’s idyllic mountaintop experience, we’re more likely to relate to the real world people he meets in the valley below. We might recognize the couple that takes David in, workaholic farmer Simeon Holly and his lonely wife, Ellen. We see ourselves in the Hollys’ farmhand, Perry Larson, or in single mother Tina Glaspell as she toils to feed her kids. Some will resonate with Jack Gurney’s truncated law career and his estrangement from his childhood sweetheart, heiress Barbara Holbrook, a woman who has everything but purpose in her life. Through each of these pivotal characters, I’d like to provoke readers to think about their relationships with work and to how that impacts their relationships with one another. In that sense, I’d like to set each reader on David’s quest, to discover what work of true beauty and value he or she is meant to do in life.

BL:  You have a wonderful gift of placing your readers into the narrative you’re producing. What advice do you have for young authors who may need some experience painting the sounds, smells, and feels a town or a scene, on the canvas of their stories?

SR:  Because realizing characters can be an intensely spiritual process, seeking discernment about each opportunity becomes an important first step. Stand strong in what you believe, no matter how hard the world tries to squeeze you into its mold. Don’t be afraid to pass on something that doesn’t sit right in your spirit. That hesitation you sense might be that still, small voice of the Holy Spirit, whispering that it’s best to invest your time elsewhere. On the other hand, if the project passes the discernment test, the best place to start is by inviting our Creator—the greatest creative mind in the universe—into the creative process. He knows our minds and hearts so well. He knows the human condition each character faces. And He’s a very present help in making each character ring with relatable truth.

As in acting, in writing there’s this process of “going there” and inhabiting that place where each character lives in a profound, internal way. We need to do more than write about a moment. We need to be in that moment. And when we are, a very sensory world opens up inside us. We go beyond merely observing characters objectively to living in their circumstances experientially. We venture to that sensory place where we see, hear, smell, and taste what they do. As we begin to feel what they feel, we pour that experience out on the page. So, go there. Think what your characters think. Notice the things they notice. Laugh with them, cry with them, feel their pains and joys. Above all, acknowledge God in all your works, and as promised, He will direct your paths.

BOOK REVIEW:
Every once in a while, a literary work bursts forth from the pens of some of our great authors and/or screenplay writers, either packing a wallop that immediately goes straight for the gut, or contains a message gloved in velvet that draws almost every emotion out of you. This new offering by producer/director and prolific author Susan Rohrer actually does both. The unique thing about Rohrer’s new book “The Beautiful World” is that you never see that wallop coming as you go through a series of twists and turns in the plot.

The unique thing about Susan Rohrer’s masterful writing is you never knew what is around the corner. It is a feature of almost all her previous books, most of which have been reviewed on my blog. A la Paul Harvey, by design, the origins of David and “Daddy’s” mysterious home in the mountains posits a quizzical take on this unusual father/son duo and the impact they are about to have on the rest of the story.

Ms. Rohrer’s fast moving plot really picks up speed when Daddy and David come off the mountain to the “valley” (the real world) where life gets messy, complicated and increasingly harsh. New characters are added like the good guy attorney Jack Gurnsey and his circle of friends and family, as well as the hardscrabble farm couple of Ellen and Simeon Holly and their trusted farmhand Perry Larson. The Hollys end up being the sympathetic couple who take the orphaned young violin prodigy David in, after Daddy departs for what David knows as “the far country.” All is not roses for David at this couple’s farmhouse. The Hollys struggle both to make ends meet and pay the mortgage, owed to a man who owns most of their county.

The expertly woven tapestry of this small town drama has the feel of a major motion picture family drama, which could have occurred in any time period of the last hundred years, in Americana.  The emotional roller coaster in “The Beautiful World” will draw you in, make you furious, then make you smile. It will make you sad to the point of bringing out a box of Kleenex. Whatever your taste in books, this one is more than just for a lazy summer afternoon read. It is an experience many will relate to, because there is something in every character with which each of us can resonate.

THIRTY ONE DAYS OF PRAYER AND THE WORD:JANUARY 1-31, 2015 THEME: "ABIDE"

DAY TWENTY:
VERSES:
"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own"...
Matthew 6:33-34

PRAYER: (Against Anxiety, Day 2

Heavenly Father,  great is Your Name and You are greatly to be praised! You, Whose Son conquered fear, death and hell sit in the heavenlies over all, so great and mighty are You Lord. By the profound sacrifice on the Cross, which satisfied the eternal blot on humanity and atoned perfectly for all sin, for all time,  You reconciled man unto Yourself and offered Him a road back to eternal fellowship with You. Lord we long for that fellowship because it is the kind which causes us to be able to persevere through these difficult and trying times.

Your Word says here to “not worry about tomorrow”, and You are correct. We have enough in front of us to simply make it through this day. Those in persecuted lands who have had no bread as they lose homes, land, jobs even family and freedom by the hordes, who represent the evil one, do not even know where their next piece of break cometh from.  We are so grateful for all you have given us, in abundance and may we share with those who are less blessed and fortunate.  No one knows what the morrow will bring, but You, and from Your Promises in the Scriptures say, if we trust fully in You, that it shall be well and taken off our plate.

Lord, the anxiety many feel comes from not just the uncertainty of this day, but the scary prospect of tomorrow as evil triumphs over good, for this time only, but nevertheless, still triumphs.  As the public educational systems corrupt Your little ones, thus preparing to answer to You on Judgment Day not knowing about the millstone and the sea….as the weak western church stand a mile wide led by super-rich under-shepherds who sugarcoat the True Gospel to keep numbers paying tithes….as the culture brainwashes with perverted messages and false religions of self-realization and mysticism demonic religions...even so, as our young people see no hope for the future, with massive college debts and no prospects….as all of this happens, confusion reigns; panic arises; hopelessness through the roof and even Your people, who are called by Your Name, feel they have nowhere to turn.

But Father, we know they feel this way because most don’t know the Scriptures, they don’t know the Power of the Word or the God Who gave it.  Father, Your equation is simple, straightforward and out in the open for all to see “seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness”….and then we will be able to persevere through anxious times, without the anxiety and all the physical, emotional and spiritual baggage that go with that anxiety.  Father, we pray that Your people start picking up the Scriptures and search for themselves to find out just what the Kingdom of God is and why His true elect are currently living in that eternal peaceful realm, while still on earth in our current form….abiding in Your everlasting Arms! Even if their preachers don’t preach the real Gospel, we pray they seek answers themselves and Your help in understanding Your Word, Your Promise and Your Abode – the kingdom of heaven!  And Lord, by pursuing Your heart, by pressing into know You more, by proclaiming what You are doing in our lives, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, we pray that more and more will see Your Holiness, Your Hand in creation and all the events surrounding our lives and more. May they seek and see more of the Righteousness of Christ confirmed in His Word and through the Holy Spirit Who lives in the true believers.  In this manner, oh God, helps all Your people to be anxious for nothing and to see Your Plans perfectly aligned with Your Timing, for our own sake and good,  and help us believe more and thus put all our trust and faith RIGHT NOW, in Jesus Christ, and it is in His Name we pray, believe and achieve this shalom and departure for anxious moments. Amen.

THE MEANING OF LIFE: PART 1 OF 12

A CHAPTER BY CHAPTER STUDY OF THE BOOK OF ECCLESIASTES......CHAPTER 1
"Vanity of Vanities"
As we noted in the previous post and Plumbline program, there is a lot of Hopelessness in the world today. In fact, many have no hope for change in their lives because their spiritual and current status in life are in a state of flux.

Much of that can be traced to complete unbelief in the real God of heaven and belief in the false god of America - which increasingly - is whatever you, the individual claim THAT god to be. What you believe in life, about life and concerning life, determines how you live that life.

Many never learn that Truth. In fact, Truth is in short supply. If a person is looking for truth in everything from church leaders down to public officials and increasingly perverse media, they are looking for both love and Truth in ALL the wrong places. God has given us the full measure of Truth, yet only few seek it.  He took even a completely corrupt and broken vessel - no, not an American politician - but King Solomon, who was suffering the consequences of decades of sinful leaving. God then used this man to send us a love letter of what life really is about.

You and I can find out that meaning, if we just dig into the true meaning of every word of every phrase of every verse of the great Book of Ecclesiastes. For the next two weeks or so, we will look at this book - Chapter by Chapter in 12 separate but intentional fluid teachings.  In a 1/2 hour TV program, all we can do is dig into the major themes of each chapter and then trust that you and I then find our own Bibles and read it in that context. Today's look at chapter 1 introduces us to the basic truism of the general overview of life. Not only is there nothing new under the sun, but Solomon is allowed to think like most modern day Americans and ask "what is the point of all of this"?

Ecclesiastes 1

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Futility of All Endeavor

The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
[a]Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher,
[b]Vanity of vanities! All is [c]vanity.”
What advantage does man have in all his work
Which he does under the sun?
A generation goes and a generation comes,
But the earth [d]remains forever.
Also, the sun rises and the sun sets;
And [e]hastening to its place it rises there again.
[f]Blowing toward the south,
Then turning toward the north,
The wind continues [g]swirling along;
And on its circular courses the wind returns.
All the rivers [h]flow into the sea,
Yet the sea is not full.
To the place where the rivers [i]flow,
There they [j]flow again.

WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT OUT OF LIFE?

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady
Many go through life without grasping the full meaning of it life.  Like all of us, at some
point in our earlier years, many have questions, the answers for which they either seldom seek (and find) the correct answers  or get the world’s misdirection or even worse – just give up and let their lives just slip away, meaninglessly.  This is not what God intended for us – whether Jew or Gentile or rich or poor. There is something within the spirit of every human which instinctively desires more than the present condition.  Increasingly, we hear this, not only from those who have not surrendered to the plans God originally had for them, but those who frequently darken the church door.

Some think “if only I had a little more, a boat or a trip to Europe or….” It would make me really happy. Some seek love and relationship, and end up on some dating website or worse – a bar, looking for love in all the wrong places.  Some seek answers in their occupation, lacking the proper perspective of what work is really about. Some seek it in music, writing books or athletics.  However, no matter what the temporal condition of the person in question, it is all boils down – more times oft than not – to “is this ALL there is”?! Is this it?

This is the same question that Super bowl Champion New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had! Here is a man who has everything a man could want, in the world’s eyes! Brady has the big multi-million contract. Brady has the huge diamond-studded Super Bowl rings. Brady has the awe of his peers and the world sports media. Brady has the massive mansion in California. Brady has the fashion model pretty wife. Brady has it all…or does he? What did he have to say about all of this? Now he does seem to be a nice guy on the human level, and has taken a liking to born-again Christian and new Patriot Tim Tebow, so this not a personal attack on Brady. It is though, an honest look at what makes successful men tick (or not) and why honesty really is the best policy...as well as the first step to personal, spiritual redemption!

I recommend you watch this Plumbline program called “WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT OUT OF LIFE?” – It is the introductory program to my 12-Part study of the entire Book of Ecclesiastes which will be posted here over the next several weeks. This upcoming series is called “THE MEANING OF LIFE”. The underlying Spirit-led premise is this- if you and I really want to know what the true meaning of life really is – FIND IT IN THE GOD OF THE BIBLE!

DAY 33/40 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR AMERICA

PRAYER FOR WEST VIRGINIA etc... AND CHRISTIAN RELIEF VOLUNTEERS
In the course of human history, we have read of and even experienced first hand, natural disasters of tremendous proportions. Man has always recovered from these things, to sometimes rebuild even better. From the time of the Great Flood of Noah to the flooded state of New Jersey and lower Manhattan, God has always shine His Grace on those on whom He shines His Grace.

Today, I felt led by the Spirit to pray in two specific directions - for those snowed under in the poor state of West Virginia and the many Christian relief organizations. First of all, nobody (in the national media etc) is talking about or cares much about the poor country folks of West Virginia now buried under two plus feet of snow, with 300,000 or more out of power. But God does. While the focus of the cameras, election campaigners and others are on New Jersey (and it is understandable), an overbearing blizzard on a small poor state, with not much means to handle it, is devastating.

Father in the Name of Jesus, I pray for Your people in West Virginia who have been bookended by  the "storm of the ages" - Sandy - and are now under a massive blanket of snow. Lord, we know most of our brethren there, in the heart of the Bible belt, are not equipped to handle this kind of weather. We know they are now cold, hungry and perhaps disoriented or worse. So Father, I pray You show Your Hands of Mercy and Grace and Compassion to lift them above their circumstances until You can get relief (food, clothing and heat) to them via Your chosen servants or the government. Remind us to pray for those who are hurting and unable to cope with this natural tragedy, as all creation groans in hope that the Savior will rescue us all from this which man has brought upon himself through sin. Have mercy oh God on Your people there....and Lord, not just in West Virginia or New Jersey and New York, but I saw the photos from the extremely poor islands of the Caribbean where there are no media promoting political messages or biases, but people are even in a more hopeless situation with no one to help them. But You can - in Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas and elsewhere, in Jesus' Holy Name, amen.

Secondly, while all the media focus etc has been on what the government can do, and they have their role to play, it is the Christian Relief Organizations of America who ALWAYS step up first to help our fellow man. I have friends who were personally involved in the Southern Baptist Relief even while Katrina was hitting Mississippi and New Orleans in 2005. Now it is these same brothers and sisters and Christ who are staging the biggest relief and volunteer operation, which will surpass anything the political types could do. The other Southern Baptist group - Samaritan's Purse and the BILLY GRAHAM EVANGELISTIC ORGANIZATION (BGEA) have been criticized by leftist preachers, liberals and others who do not do a thing to help anybody except harp on those who stand up for Biblical Truth (see: ministers attack Franklin). But it is this same Franklin Graham who is leading teams of trucks full of generators, food etc and hundreds of volunteers to help people in Atlantic City and elsewhere while the naysayers insult those who believe in the Truth of the Bible.

So, Father, in the Name of Jesus, I pray for the leaders of the Salvation Army Relief; the entire Southern Baptist Convention and the North American Missions Board (NAMB) and Franklin Graham and the entire BGEA as they lead over a thousand volunteers to do a work, which is larger in scope than the post September 11, 2001 aftermath. I pray for the Graham family, that You protect them from those who claim to be Yours but support the violation of every principle in the Holy Scriptures, while others do the work of helping Your people. I pray for the volunteers who will be risking their health and safety to help others in distress not just in New Jersey, but I pray for the effort in parts of Delaware, North Carolina and especially West Virginia. Father, give the same Grace to those volunteers that You gave the Israelites who walked through the desert for 40 years, yet did not get sick nor did their shoes wear out. I pray You remove ALL stumbling blocks and the many "Tobiahs" and "Sanballats" who reside in the talking head studios and on the ground, who are putting obstacles to goodness, righteousness and mercy. Father, in all of this, may YOUR Name, YOUR HOLY NAME be glorified because there will be no doubt that it is the God of the Bible and His people - all the abovementioned organizations and volunteers - who are bringing hope back to those who have lost everything in this storm, in the Name of Jesus I pray, amen.

A FORTNIGHT OF PRAYER

DAY 12
OUR HOPE

Everywhere we turn, we see despair and pain, for more than a few families. Economically, it is hopeless in some regions of the country as college graduates come out of school with worthless degrees and $100,000 debts put upon them by a liberal college system. The parasitic education class sips their chablis and eat cheese, while their graduate interns do all the work, and blame capitalism/free enterprise for everything. I hope someday soon, that a reputable investigation is done into why not just the average US college education costs so much, but what is the cost/benefit analysis of this outrage.

The biggest further outrage to this is the general feeling of hopelessness among the populace as we look out over the landscape, into the future. Not only do we not see a way for our children to succeed and find their niche in life, but we see the crooked politicians, academic and media types usurping parental and religious rights to empower themselves. We then see them on a vile and profane campaign to redefine the world, which God gave us, albeit temporarily, to be stewards. We have gone through days of prayer now, on how we pray for those people...and why.

Therefore, what we will be doing here for the final three days of the Fortnight of Freedom, through Prayer and Intercession, is concentrating on showing the TRUE hope that is out there for our people. The amazing thing about this Hope is that it is for ALL people, including those who serve themselves and not God....but there is a catch - they must surrender their lives to Christ, and it must be known.
This Hope cannot be found in the political and judicial class, who are part of the end times strategy of the serpent of old.
This Hope is ONLY found in God, from Whom ONLY, we derive our personal freedom and liberty - which NO government can take.
Our Hope in the Cross is foolishness to those who will not stand a chance before Holy God on Judgment Day, because our Hope in the Cross is the Power for Eternal Life for all who have repented and put their trust in the Savior.
Our Hope is not to those who find a liberal "church" at election time to spew socialism and personal animus at their political opponents, but our Hope is found in the One Whose feet will land on Mt. Zion in days to come and Who will finally make things as they are supposed to be.
Our Hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus' Blood and Righteousness.

So here is what God says about your hope and my hope:
Psalm 30 (ESV)

PRAISE HIM FIRST:
I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up
and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
O LORD my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;
you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.
Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.
GOD'S ATTRIBUTES:
For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
As for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I shall never be moved.”
By your favor, O LORD,
you made my mountain stand strong;
CRY OUT TO HIM IN PETITION:
you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
To you, O LORD, I cry,
and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
“What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me!
O LORD, be my helper!”
PRAISE HIM AGAIN FOR HIS MERCY TOWARDS US:
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

Please focus your mind on the Words of God here, through His servant King David (the human author of this psalm). Notice how David begins by praising and "extolling" God. We know David wrote under the inspiration and power of the Holy Spirit because he said so, several times. For you and I, as far as the Bible is concerned, if God said it, I believe it.

So King David praises the Heavenly Father - Abba, Daddy - for the first quarter of the psalm. Then he explains how God thinks and His merciful attributes..re: "His anger is but for a moment..." Then David shows us God's promise and His favor....the promise is "weeping and hopelessness and despair is but for a short time"....but let not your hearts be troubled, my friends "JOY COMES IN THE MORNING"..... And a Joy is coming on resurrection morning, when we see Jesus Face to face!!

In the third quarter of the psalm above, David cries out his petition and this is how you and I should be as we place our prayer requests, no matter what they are (God can sort out the ones He doesn't think apply to us). So use the words of this portion and press into the Throne of Grace with petitions and a heart broken for His Healing.

Finally, please note that God answered David's prayer here....and He will do so for you too!! He may not give us the material things we want, but we will have what we need. Do NOT believe the lies of certain people preaching in your town or on TV who sell a "name it and claim it" false gospel because this will increase your hopelessness when the thing you "claim" does not materialize! But claim the Word and promises of God and the PRAISES of God in your heart...store it and hide it there....and the peace that passes ALL understanding will be yours - even as we see the world fall apart ALL around us! We will not be shaken!

Amen
